The Rutles: The Collection is a box set that contains the entire Rutles core catalog in the Almost Original Recording series. When it initially released in late 1982, it became quite popular with the Peedophile[1] community due to the records featured in this box set being pressed from the almost original tapes the Rutles might of originally recorded onto. The Rutles: The Collection sold so poorly when it released, that it was declared a limited edition release in an attempt to raise sales.
Almost Original Recording[]
Almost Original Recording is a branding used by Perky Dodo Sound Labs (PeDo) for their "Peedophile level of quality" releases. These releases are pressed straight from the almost original master tapes, and are pressed a little bit thicker than standard releases. The releases, such as the ones included in The Rutles: The Collection, are often remastered using a patented technique referred to as "Lying", and maybe removing compression with just a little itty bitty bit of equalization. To ensure the best quality, releases in the Almost Original Recording series are pressed in China, using "Slut" vinyl, often marketed as "Pretty Cool Vinyl" by PeDo.
