GOD1

A news article on the story.

In response to this, many fans burnt there albums, many more burnt their fingers trying to burn their albums. Album sales skyrocketed, as people began to buy the albums, simply to burn them.

It would later turn out that it was all a great misunderstanding, Nast, whilst talking to a slightly death journalist, has stated that the Rutles were bigger than Rod Stewart, who was not big for another eight years.

In an interview on the subject, Ron stated that this proved that "[we're] all daft-- I'll probably get in trouble for that now." Rod apologised to God and Rod to these statements.

Despite of the affect this had on the Rutle's fans, the concert went along as planned. Some believe that the Rutle's true popularity resulted out of this, as this was the first big Media coverage in the groups's history.

Connection to "Real world"

  • This event was based off the great controversy Of the "bigger than Jesus" controversy, in which John Lennon called the Beatles bigger than god. Fans, like in the Rutles version of things, began to protest, and began burning their albums. Eventually Lennon apologised and the press backed down, but not before it scarred the Beatles' apparent innocence tot he outside world.
