Piggy in the Middle (also known by the misprinted title I Am the Waitress) was a song on the Tragical History Tour album and film in 1967. It was written by Ron Nasty and credited to Nasty-McQuickly. The song released as a single, backed with "Silver Jubilee", and became a hit. The song was a particular favourite of Nasty's.
Nasty wrote the song to confound listeners who had been affording serious scholarly interpretations of the Rutles' lyrics. He was partly inspired by two tea trips. Compositionally, every musical letter of the alphabet is invoked and every chord is a major or a seventh. Producer Archie Macaw arranged and added orchestral accompaniment that included violins, cellos, horns, and clarinet. Numerous oinking sounds from pigs were recorded and sampled throughout the recording.
The song had a notable music video in the film Tragical History Tour, in which The Rutles wore pig masks and were later shown walking down stairs holding cups of tea.
Lyrics[]
I know you know what you know
But you should know by now that you're not me
Talk about a month of Sundays
Toffee-nosed wet weekend as far as I can see
Yes. Hey, diddle diddle (whooo!)
The cat and the fiddle (whooo!)
Piggy in the middle (whooo!)
Do a poo poo
Bible punching heavyweight
Evangelistic boxing kangaroo
Orangutan and anaconda
Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, even Pluto, too
Hey, diddle diddle (whooo!)
The cat and the fiddle (whooo!)
Piggy in the middle (whooo!)
Do a poo poo
Tekraaam ot tnew eiggip elttil siht
One man's civilization is another man's jungle, yeah
They say revolution's in the air
I'm dancing in my underwear
'Cause I don't care
You might also like
Hey diddle diddle (whooo!)
The cat and the fiddle (whooo!)
Piggy in the middle (whooo!)
Do a poo poo
Do a poo poo
Oink oink
Walkie-talkie man says "‘ello, ‘ello, ‘ello,"
With his ballerina boots you can tell he's always on his toes
Hanging from a Christmas tree
Creeping like the Bogeyman, gettin' up my nose
Hey diddle diddle (whooo!)
The cat and the fiddle (whooo!)
Piggy in the middle (whooo!)
Do a poo poo
A poo poo
Poo
..piggy had roast beef
And this little piggy had none
This little piggy went WOOOOOOO!!
....all the way home
This little piggy went to market
And this little piggy stayed home
This little piggy had roast beef
And this little piggy had none
This little piggy went Wooo..oooo!
All the way home
(oink oink)
Now this little piggy went to market
And this little piggy stayed at home
And This little piggy had roast beef
And this little piggy had none
This little piggy went Woooo!
All the way home, all the way home
Now this little piggy went to market
And this little piggy stayed at home
This little piggy had roast beef!
And this little piggy had none!
Poor Piggy!
This little piggy went...
Ooooooooo
