"Mr. Sheene" or "Mister Sheene" is a 1966 Rutles song written by Dirk McQuickly [1] and recorded with Stig O'Hara. Dirk had previously introduced Stig to Barry Sheene at the Frinton 500 race, and the three became friends.[2] Dirk then improvised the song while hanging out with Sheene in private. [3]
"Mr. Sheene" was initially released as the B-side of the song "Ging Gang Goolie". Both songs were featured in the movie Yellow Submarine Sandwich and included on its soundtrack album. In 1978, Dirk and Stig released solo versions of the songs. News of the Dirk and Stig solo versions of these two songs were covered in the first issue of the Rutles fanzine Rutles Forever. In a letter to the magazine, McQuickly stated that the pair intended to release a full album together, but this never came to pass.
