"How Sweet to Be an Idiot" was a Ron Nasty solo song released in 1973, after the break-up of The Rutles. The song did not perform amazingly well, but because a cult classic later on. Notably, the band Oasis later borrowed the melody of the song for "Whatever", leading to a lawsuit which ended with Nasty receiving a writing credit and 25% royalties.

Nasty would later reference the controversy in the song "Shangri-La", both in the intro and by half-quoting the Oasis song during a collage of references to Nasty's other work at the end.
