<p class="MsoNormal">Dick Jaws began his career as a singer in the 1940s. He was an original member of the vocal group The Astronomers, but left them shortly before their rise to fame. (Coincidentally, after the break-up of The Rutles and the formation by Dirk McQuickly of his new group Ailerons, Jaws sued McQuckly for plagiarising The Astronomers’ best-known hit, “See Moon”). He achieved minor fame as a solo singer, recording the theme song of the children’s TV series “Dennis Moore”, and also wrote the novelty song “We’re differently coloured bathroom items” for the popular singer Cemetery Raincoats. However, he struck gold when he and Leggy Mountbatten signed a song contract with Nasty and McQuickly, whereby Nasty and McQuickly had to write as many songs as possible and Jaws kept all the royalties.</p>
