David Bowie 1975

David Robert Jones (8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016), known professionally as David Bowie, was a 20th and 21st-century musician who is best known for his highly-influential music career that spanned over five decades, and is regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Frequently reinventing his music and mage, Bowie was widely regarded as an innovator and was known for the intellectual depth of his work. Aside from music, Bowie was also an avid painter and art collector, and appeared in films and television shows.

During the 1960s, he closely knew The Rutles, and in 2002 was interviewed by Melvin Hall for The Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch.

In 1968, Bowie entered a behind-the-scenes beef with Ron Nasty over his album Old Bag (AKA Two Mormons) as Bowie felt "Old Bag" was a reference to his then-wife. Despite this disagreement, he still worked with Nasty on his hit single "Foam". Bowie also said that Nasty had "a Marxist and socialist problem".

In 1972, Bowie and Barry Wom played on the Lou Reed album Transformer and its single "Perfect Day".

Bowie covered the Rutles song "Let's Be Natural" on his 1975 album Young Americans. On the same album the title track Young Americans contains a vocal quotation of the song "Cheese and Onions.

In his later life, Bowie became obsessed with the Rutle compilation album 1, which he viewed, bitterly, as a feat of "marketing extravagance." In response, he released his own album of songs, 4.
