1 was an album released on 13 November 2000. It featured 27 of The Rutles best #1 hits, including Number One, all on one CD/LP. It sold more copies than any other album in the history of music.

David Bowie, famed musician, was bitterly fascinated by the record at release, calling it a "piece of marketing extravagance" in The Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch. In the extended interview, he mentioned that he planned to release his own version of the idea, titled 4.

In 2015, it was announced that the album would be re-released. Titled -1, it contained substantially fewer features. The re-release sold three-times as many copies.
